Responsible Snorkelling

 

Snorkeling is one way to look into the beauty of what the Ocean has to offer. There are many places in the world that one can go and dive in to see the splendors in the water. So, whether your in the Bahamas or the Great Barrier Reef, you must respect what’s under the water.

You can begin by knowing where your diving, like what’s under the water that you need to be aware of. Things like reef, plants, fish and also rocks. You should do some research on the site that your visiting.

 


Be sure that your wetsuit and the rest of your gear is properly fitted. Like you want to check for holes in the snorkel or even the wetsuit, see that the mask isn’t going to come loose or leak in some way.

When diving in the water don’t do it to fast, first get use to the surroundings then you will feel more comfortable and so move quicker. Try not to make thundering sounds in the water, this may frighten the fish and can make you panic.

 


If near a reef and taking pictures, don’t hang on to it while taking a photo. This can destroy the reef, and even kicking around and touching the reef should be avoided at all times.

It’s best to keep about a meter or so away from the plants or reefs, and try not to feed any fish. If you encounter animals while your in the water like sea snakes, wales or even turtles, be sue to stay away from them. Don’t try to ride, or grab any of the animal or get in front of them to stop them.

When diving where there is coral or reef, there are usually conditions to follow. like
Damage of coral not allowed, coral is protected even the dead ones, shells and so on. If the marine gives you permission then you may some of these things, otherwise they are illegal.
